Dr.Charles Becker from Duke University visited AUCA.

Professor Charles Becker has visited American University of Central Asia in May 2018. He participated in the State Exams Committee and evaluated senior theses during the defense. He also shared advice and recommendations on how to get into the best Western graduate programs and shared own impressions about AUCA and its students.

Professor Charles Becker has helped to build and direct the M.A. Economics program at Duke University since 2003. Professor Becker joined the Duke faculty in 2003, where he directed the American Economic Association’s Summer Program and Minority Scholarship Program (2003-2007). He previously taught at the University of Colorado-Denver, Vanderbilt, and University of Colorado-Boulder. In 2007, Dr. Becker was recognized as a lifetime member of the American Economic Association for service to the profession. He received Duke’s equity, inclusion and diversity award in 2008 and graduate faculty mentoring award in 2014. Dr Becker served as Team Leader for the Asian Development Bank’s pension reform technical assistance program to the Kyrgyz Republic in 1998-99, was a pension reform advisor in various capacities to the Government of Kazakhstan 2000-06, and was Chair of the International Academic Board of the Kyiv School of Economics 2012-15 (member, 2005-17).
